Courses can be organized by the Authority or if desired offered to departments in schools. Contact your Science Adviser or djb microtech directly if you are interested in any of the above courses.

Details of each course are listed below. Note that djb microtech strongly believe in 'learning by doing' and consequently all courses have extensive 'hands-on' time.

 

Graphical Analysis and Data Handling using the ALBA Software

Duration: 2-3 hours

Aims

The aims of this course are to:

  • equip teachers with the appropriate skills for analyzing experimental data
  • develop teaching strategies that help pupils acquire a systematic approach to analyzing experimental results and determining mathematical relationships.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course participants should be able to:

  • use the ALBA software to manipulate tabular data in order to determine mathematical relationships
  • use the ALBA software to analyse data graphically and determine mathematical relationships
  • identify appropriate teaching strategies that will facilitate the integration of Graphical Analysis and Data Handling into their courses.

 

Simple Data Handling

Duration: 2 hours

Aims

The aims of this course are to:

  • familiarize teachers with djb microtech's Simple Data Handling software package
  • to equip teachers with the appropriate practical skills that will enable the integration Simple Data Handling software into their teaching.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course participants should be able to

  • use djb microtech's Simple Data Handling to draw bar & pie charts, line graphs and histograms
  • identify appropriate teaching strategies that will facilitate the integration of data capture and analysis into their Science courses.

Duration: 5 hours

  • familiarize teachers with the features of the ALBA software
  • to equip Physics teachers with the appropriate practical skills that will enable the integration of the ALBA Interface and its curriculum based software into their teaching.

  • use ALBA as a remote data logger
  • integrate tables and graphs into report writing
  • tailor the pupil instructions by editing text and photographs
  • download the latest version of the ALBA software
  • run Physics Applications that support S3-S6 Physics courses
  • identify appropriate teaching strategies that will facilitate the integration of data capture and analysis into their Physics courses.

Duration: 5 hours

A Practical Approach to Teaching Mechanics

Duration: 5 hours

Aims

The aim of this course is to familiarize teachers with modern ICT equipment that can be used in the teaching of Mechanics.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course participants should be able to use djb microtech's:

  • ultrasonic Ranger for the study of kinetics
  • 'Time, Speed Acceleration' unit for numerous experiments from the S3-S6 physics courses
  • ALBA Interface and Logger for numerous experiments from the S3-S6 physics courses.

 

 

Electrical Experiments for Higher and Advanced Higher using the ALBA Interface and Logger

Duration: 4 hours

Aims

The aim of this course is to familiarize teachers with the sections of the Higher and Advanced Higher courses that can be supported with the ALBA Interface and Logger.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course participants should be able to use the ALBA Interface and Logger to support their teaching in the following areas:

  • resistors and ac
  • capacitors and ac
  • inductors and ac
  • capacitors and dc
  • inductors and dc
  • electrical oscillations
  • internal resistance
  • Wheatstone bridge.

 

 

S1/S2 Experiments using the ALBA interface

Duration: 5 hours

Aims

The aim of this course is to:
familiarize teachers with modern ICT equipment that can be used in the teaching of the Sciences in the first two years of secondary school.
familiarize teachers with the features of the ALBA software
to equip Science teachers with the appropriate practical skills that will enable the integration of the ALBA Interface and its curriculum based software into their teaching.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course participants should be able to:

  • set up the ALBA Interface and Logger with is associated hardware
  • run the Application software
  • draw graphs
  • manipulate data in tabular form
  • identify appropriate teaching strategies that will facilitate the integration of data capture and analysis into their Science courses.
