 This unit enables the teacher to get across in a very visual manner the difference between heat energy and temperature.
The unit consists of a holder where wax plates and three metal cylinders of equal weight and diameter can be located. The weights are made of aluminium, lead and zinc. The weights are heated to the same temperature and placed at the top of the wax. Due to their different specific heat capacities the weights will sink to various depths.
This is a very concrete way of presenting a difficult concept.
